Caesarean Section

Caesarean Section

Caesarean section or Caesarean delivery is the surgical delivery of a baby through a transverse incision on the mother’s abdomen and womb. This procedure is necessary when a vaginal delivery is considered unsafe for the mother, or the baby, or both.

A Caesarean delivery may be planned in these situations:

  The baby is not in a head-down position;

  A low lying placenta;

  Twins pregnancy;

  Previous Caesarean deliveries;

  Medical diseases in the mother, such as hypertension;

  The baby is too large to be delivered vaginally.

Sometimes, during the laboring process, a decision needs to be made to deliver the baby by emergency Caesarean section if:

  Labour fails to progress;

  Abnormal fetal heart rate during labour, fetal distress.
